Top Ten (Plus!) Things to Do When You’re Bored

We have a good amount of downtime these days, no doubt about it. If you're like us, you can only take so many walks around the block. You can only play The Game of Life so many times. You can only watch so many episodes of [Name Your Guilty Pleasure] before your rear end goes numb.

So here are some of our favorite things to do when there's nothing left to do. See if you agree, and let us know what your go-to boredom busters are!

1. Learn a new language.

Thanks to apps like Duolingo, stretching your mental muscles is super convenient.

2. Make some wall art.

You don't need to be a master painter to DIY some of these fabulous wall decor ideas.

3. Make a vision board

Cover a piece of cardboard with images and words you’ve cut out from old magazines.

4. Plan a party (for when things are back to normal).

Life is too short not to plan parties.

5. Get lost on Pinterest.

Not sure how to style your new black pencil skirt? Need a theme for your baby’s first birthday party? Thinking about painting your kitchen chairs? Pinterest is full of ideas on all of these topics and so much more.

6. Make lists.

List your goals, the people who inspire you, dishes you want to learn how to make, clothes you’d like to buy for the summer season, places you’d like to visit, etc. Or make us your own top-ten list that we can post next Tuesday!

7. Read a book.

I’m sure there’s a book lying around your house that you’ve never read. Find it and read the first chapter. Or start that classic — The Great GatsbyPride and PrejudiceThe Catcher in the Ryeyou’ve been meaning to read forever.

8. Start thinking about your next Halloween costume.

Maybe you and your partner should be Princess Leia and Han Solo, and your kids could be Storm Troopers. Or perhaps you could all be characters from Inside Out?

9. Stage a photoshoot.

Take pictures of something you love, be it your kids, food, your house, or your dog; then edit and share on Instagram.

10. Start an Instagram feed for your pet.

Who knows? Your pup could be the next Boo!

11. Edit old photos.

We take a plethora of pictures with our smartphones, but how much time do we spend on those pictures? So edit. Crop. Lighten dark images. Apply filters. Clean up blemishes. Delete repetitious images and make those great images become nearly perfect.

12. Dance and sing.

Why not try some family karaoke? Put on your favorite music and belt out the verses along with your favorite artist.

13. Do some yoga.

Roll out the Yoga mat. Try a few poses. Or just work on your deep breathing — whatever centers you and brings a bit of peace and calm to your day.
