How to Choose a Physician

Screen Shot 2012-08-31 at 9.00.06 PMFinding the right physician for your family is one of the most important decisions you will make.  Parents must find physicians for the adults in the family, a pediatrician for their children, and spets if anyone needs specialized care for underlying ailments.  All of these pediatricians need to also be in your insurance network if your primary health care insurance will be covering your office visits.

1314902_99313658 Finding a physician does not have to be a difficult task.  The first step is to find the listing of physicians that are in your insurance network.  Once you know which pediatricians, primary care physicians, and hospitals are in your network you can search out the physicians who are well regarded in your area.  Ask friends which physicians that they use and are happy with and make a list of the doctors who are used by most of your friends and family.

Once you narrow down your choices, call the doctors’ offices and ask if you could make an appointment to come into the practice and meet the staff and the physician.  At this meeting, do not be afraid to ask important questions about hours, office policies, and each doctor’s personal care philosophy.  It is critical that you find a physician who fits well with your own medical beliefs and has office hours that will meet your needs.  You will be happier with a practice that is able to meet your needs and fit your families’ schedule.
