Roaming Roanoke: Scratch Biscuit Company

For this edition of Roaming Roanoke we turned to food! We visited Scratch Biscuit Company!

Last Friday, my five-year-old daughter randomly asked for biscuits in the middle of the evening. We didn’t have any in the house. Cue my mom guilt for not being able to just walk into the kitchen and make some from scratch. My mom always makes biscuits from scratch using the family recipe passed on from my grandmama. I really should pick up this family tradition, but that wasn’t possible on a whim last Friday. I decided to do the next best thing, promise her we would go eat biscuits for Saturday breakfast! Scratch Biscuit Company was the perfect place!

We actually have not eaten inside a restaurant since the Covid pandemic began last March. I decided to try it on Saturday – with all three kids, so I guess I was feeling adventurous! Scratch Biscuit Company met all of our expectations and more! We had great biscuits and big smiles all around!

Scratch Biscuit Company is located in historic Grandin Village. It has a wide variety of biscuits and other breakfast food options on the menu. The best part is almost all of the biscuits are under $5! My kids all age 6 and under kept it simple and all got bacon biscuits. These biscuits are really large so it is almost like a sandwich size for them. I also got an order of french toast. The entire meal was great!

Scratch Biscuit Company is open Monday-Saturday, 7:00am-2:00pm and on Sunday for brunch. While biscuits are the star of this Roanoke eatery, the menu includes plenty of side items as well and other breakfast type foods, along with lunch items like sandwiches and burgers. They also have coffee roasted in-house.  I really can’t do the menu justice, so you will have to visit it to see for yourself! In the meantime, you can visit the Scratch Biscuit Company Instagram page for plenty of mouth-watering pictures of the food! The menu is also on its website, scratchbiscuit.com.

The restaurant is following all health and safety guidelines during the pandemic to keep everyone safe. Indoor seating is limited to only a few tables. There is outdoor seating as well. You need to wear a mask when not eating and social distance. If you’re going indoors, you order at the cash register and then wait for your food. You can eat there or take it to-go. The restaurant offers curbside pick-up and deliveries for places nearby. All of the information is on the Scratch Biscuit Company website.

Scratch Biscuit Company was just what my daughter wanted when she requested biscuits! We even brought some extra ones home to eat later! Everyone left with a full tummy and a big smile!
