Roaming Roanoke: Duck Donuts

This edition of Roaming Roanoke is keeping the food theme we started last week! This week we got donuts at Duck Donuts!

I have had Duck Donuts before but had never gone to the restaurant and selected them and purchased them myself until now. Let me tell you, I should have been visiting Duck Donuts way before now! The donuts are phenomenal! I cannot believe I have missed out on Duck Donuts the past two years.

My middle child’s preschool teamed up with Duck Donuts last fall for a fundraiser. Duck Donuts offered coupon books for the school to sell. We ended up with several Duck Donut coupon books and somehow waited until now to use them. We should have used them immediately! Last Friday, my five-year-old asked for donuts (this might be her new thing, requesting certain food items each Friday because she requested biscuits the Friday before). When she said donuts, I remembered the Duck Donuts coupon books on our shelf and decided to use them! I’m so glad we did because we all loved the donuts!

Duck Donuts is a franchise, and we are lucky to have one in the Cave Spring area on Electric Road! Duck Donuts has an extensive menu full of made-to-order donuts, and that list of donuts is extensive! It includes regular staples plus featured donuts for each season and/or holiday. You can get one or a half dozen or a full dozen or many more. You can mix and match your half-dozen or dozen boxes as you wish. We chose to get 12 different donuts to get a wide variety of the taste. One of the hardest things was choosing which ones to get off the menu because all looked and and sounded so good! We ended up with a wide variety of chocolate, cinnamon, blueberry, raspberry, french toast, and much more! These 12 donuts did not even last a day in our house with our family of five! They were all gone by the next afternoon! It is a good thing we have more coupons from our preschool fundraiser because we will definitely be back!

Duck Donuts also offers more than just donuts. Naturally there is coffee and other seasonal drinks like hot chocolate, espresso, and tea! The menu includes sandwiches and sundaes made with donuts too! You can see the entire menu online at duckdonuts.com. The Duck Donuts Instagram page includes plenty of yummy pictures of the donuts and menu items!

In case you are wondering about the name – the website says Duck Donuts originated in the Outer Banks, NC. The founders placed the first one in Duck, NC! You can find plenty of duck pictures and rubber ducks displayed in the restaurant! My kids enjoyed looking at all of the different rubber ducks displayed while we waited for our donuts!

Duck Donuts in Cave Spring follows all Covid guidelines with mask-wearing inside and social distancing while in line or waiting to pick-up your order. There is outdoor seating (we took it home since it was so cold outside). You can also order online or ahead of time and pick-up. It is located in the Promenade Park Shopping Center at 3564 Electric Rd.

We enjoyed our donuts and will be back! We are so glad my daughter’s preschool teamed up with Duck Donuts for the fundraiser this year!
