Roaming Roanoke: Homestead Creamery

For this edition of Roaming Roanoke, we took a trip to the Homestead Creamery!

I love ice cream! I always have loved ice cream and apparently I am passing this trait on to my kids because all three of them love ice cream too! Now that it is finally warm outside, it is fun to ice cream whenever we can! Spring Break brought the opportunity to go to a place we’ve never been to before – The Homestead Creamery Farm Market! Even better, the ice cream there is nationally AWARD WINNING! I had to try it! It lived up to the hype!

The Homestead Creamery Farm Market is in Franklin County in the Burnt Chimney area. It is located on Booker T. Washington Highway and easy to find! From the moment we drove up, it was clear just how popular this place is! The parking lot was full at lunch time! Many people were sitting outside eating lunch or ice cream. Once we walked inside, there was a line at the checkout for ice cream and lunch!

The Homestead Creamery Farm Market has both food prepared to eat there and ice cream and food packaged for purchase to take home. It also has some other grocery items. There is outdoor seating in front of the market and a porch in the back for sitting and eating. It also has wooden rocking chairs – my favorite to sit in and savor ice cream! Due to Covid regulations, seats are spaced apart and the number of people allowed on the back porch is limited.

We ate lunch before ice cream. The market lunch menu has a variety of paninis, cold sandwiches, and salads. It does have a kids menu. We enjoyed chicken salad and grilled cheese sandwiches! All of the kids, ages, 6, 5, and 2, enjoyed their meal! Of course, maybe they just wanted to hurry up and get to the main attraction – the ice cream! The ice cream was DELICIOUS! We had cheesecake and chocolate flavors! We all loved it! We enjoyed it so much that we bought some in the market to bring home! The rocking chairs on the back porch were the best spot to relax and eat it all.

The Homestead Creamery has 22 flavors of ice cream! Plus, there is more than just ice cream, it also has 15 flavors of milk and lemonade too.. The Homestead Creamery website also has a cool section showing how the products are made from farm to store. You can watch it at https://www.homesteadcreameryinc.com/how-its-made/

The Homestead Creamery products are available in many other stores in the region than just the market in Burnt Chimney. The website, https://www.homesteadcreameryinc.com, has a list of all the stores that sell it, plus details on home delivery!

We definitely enjoyed our afternoon at the Homestead Creamery Farm Market and hope to taste all 22 flavors of ice cream in the future!
