Roaming Roanoke: Skate Center of the Roanoke Valley

For this edition of Roaming Roanoke, we visited the Skate Center of the Roanoke Valley!

It is spring but this weather is warm and cold (hello Dogwood Winter) and pollen is flying everywhere (and sneezes)! When the weather is like this, it is great that we have so many indoor options for fun! The Skate Center of Roanoke Valley is one of those places. It has something for everyone!

Walking into the Skate Center of Roanoke Valley brings back a lot of nostalgic memories of roller skating rinks growing up in Tennessee. This skating rink looks just like the ones from my childhood but also has so much more! It has a play zone, laser tag, an arcade area, and a snack bar. A family can spend several hours here doing everything and getting a meal! There are also game rooms and space for birthday parties.

Skate Center of Roanoke Valley also works with schools, churches, and other organizations for fundraisers and events. Our son’s elementary school recently had a skate party there through the PTA. It was a great time for kids of all ages to play and skate. I was impressed at how many kids could roller skate really well! My kids need some help, which is great because they have rolling stands to rent for kids to hold onto and learn how to skate. This helped my young kids.

The Skate Center of the Roanoke Valley has skate lessons for people who want it. The sessions run for four weeks. We have some friends who did this and say their six-year-old learned to roller skate pretty well at the lessons.

The play zone is probably the biggest hit for my kids and their friends. The play zone had the most kids on at the recent elementary school PTA event. It has lots of climbing and slides and ways to have fun! Laser tag and the arcade are also a big hit!

The snack bar provides plenty of food options whether you are looking for a light snack or a meal. Some of the family admission packages have meal deals as well.

The Skate Center of the Roanoke Valley is located at 4121 Brandon Ave. in Roanoke. Prices vary depending on the day and time you are going. You can find all of the information on rates and hours at the website, https://skateplay.com/hours/. It is affordable. You can pay for skating, the play zone, or laser tag individually or get a group package. You can bring your own skates or rent skates there. Both regular skates and roller blade skates are available.

Safety is a priority here. Employees are on the floor making sure everyone is following skating and play zone rules. Due to the Covd pandemic, masks are required. There are hand sanitizer stations set-up around the building. Rental skates are sanitized after each use.

If you want to have a birthday party or a school or organization event, you can also find information on the website, https://skateplay.com.

The Skate Center of Roanoke Valley was a fun time for young kids and older kids whether they can skate or need help learning. If they do not want to skate, there are plenty of fun options. My youngest could spend the whole time in the play zone! Plus, our local PTA benefitted and I know other schools and organizations have benefitted from the Skate Center of Roanoke Valley as well!
