Adventure Us: Snowflex

Adventure #53: Snowflex

What do you do if you’re sick and tired of the unrelenting heat of late summer? Pretend it’s winter, of course. And Liberty University can help make that dream a reality with their unique Snowflex Centre.

Situated on Liberty Mountain, overlooking the town of Lynchburg, Snowflex is a one-of-a-kind winter sports adventure that you can enjoy year-round. The complex features snowless ski and snowboard slopes, which are composed of an artificial surface that mimics the feel of packed snow. For younger kids, there is a supervised beginners’ slope and sledding hill. In addition, there are two exhilarating Neveplast tubing runs, and an Olympic-grade trampoline that is definitely a step up from the one in our backyard.

And when you’re done out on the slopes, come inside the lodge to warm up (or cool down)! The immaculate ski lodge is perfectly outfitted in the style of an alpine resort, complete with mounted moose, concessions, wifi, and a great view out over the Blue Ridge (and, if you time it right, a perfect sunset).

Besides the array of recreational activities, Snowflex offers training programs and ski and snowboarding lessons year-round. You can rent all the equipment you need here too.

Our family took advantage of the Tuesday afternoon combo pass: $10 per person for two hours of enjoyment on any of the available activities. We found the tubing and trampoline to be just the right speed for our youngish family: exciting but not terrifying, the perfect way to spend two fun hours.

Be prepared to sign a liability waiver for each family member when you arrive. Written rules are displayed for each activity. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but slightly too easygoing, so it would be worthwhile to make sure your kids are engaged with the rules of each activity, as they may not be reminded by anyone else before they start on it.

Head up the mountain to Snowflex Centre for a taste of winter adventure in the middle of summer!
